ABOUT TOPICS:

MR SESSIONS

  • The trademark Movement ritual session. A mixed movement pedagogy heavily inspired by the Capoeira practice. These sessions will empower you with the necessary attributes and confidence to move freely and with ease. Preparing you for any other physical activity while helping you to develop a sustainable and ‘practical movement practice’.

MOVEMENT EXERCISE AND BODYWEIGHT TRAINING BASICS

  • Here we prepare and condition the body by reviewing common exercises like squats, press ups, and sit ups and make these movements ‘transferable’ to ‘skills’ .

LOCOMOTIVE PRACTICE

  • We will learn 15+ Quadrupedal and bipedal patterns from ‘ground up’ broken down to bite size portions then placed into patterns and sequences. This practice will develop and deepen the practitioners coordination rhythmicality and confidence.

MOBILITY

  • Improving strength through full ranges of motion for longevity of practice while developing a bambu like body, supple yet strong! A great for prehab and rehab. Throughout our sessions we will be visiting shoulders, hips, wrists, ankles looking at front splits, pancake splits, forward folds, backbends and bridging.

PARTNER INQUIRIES / BODY WEIGHT GAMES

  • Bodyweight games and play oriented practice to develop self-awareness connection with self other and the environment.

(FLORIEOS) SOFT ACROBATICS

  • We will be visiting both our fear and comfort by learning to explore through our senses to gain feedback in order to create physical risk assessments. We will learn how to become soft, agile and light as a feather all the while touching on skills like: Handstands, headstands, Cartwheels(and variations), Macacos, Elbow levers,

FLOORWORK

  • ‘Floorwork’ offers a chance for us to re-connect with the ground. The ground provides us with immediate feedback which gives us knowledge of our self, sharpening our kinetic senses. It offers safety, security and the opportunity to explore our sense of self in regard to our movement. The gravitational relief we can receive through this practice can be very nourishing to fascia, soft tissues and spine. The floor will help you maintain a strong, supple body and develop the awareness to be a versatile mover. Maintaining contact with the floor and applying pressure, enables us to fully articulate movements through the whole body while connection with the floor helps to build strength and resilience in our muscles. The floor is your best friend. It will always be there to ground you, support and strengthen you in your movement, help you grow and stand tall. All real qualities of a true friend.

SEQUENCING/COMBOS/FLOWS

TRANSITIONS/

  • You will learn to connect movements smoothly and effortlessly by fine-tuning into details of the ‘space between’ movements and their reference points. Through this process of defining and redefining movements you will learn to transition fluidly, creatively and combine different movements together in a more personalised way.

Meet the Teacher:

Baris has 20+ years of experience teaching/coaching and performing throughout Europe and the states.

For the last 10 years has also lectured on Capoeira/movement at the University of East London: Urban Dance Practice BA(hons) diploma

He is the Founder of @Bambubodies - An organisation committed to deliver an empowering multi-disciplinary movement education and is a certified manual therapist and yoga instructor.

What Baris’s students say:

"Baris has integrated his formal understanding of the human body into a holistic approach to both his teaching of movement as well as his manual therapy practice. He is a gifted athlete and teacher who works hard to share his insights and skills with students and clients."

  • Dr Michelle L Krishnan MBBS BSc Hons

MRC Clinical Research Training Research Fellow in Perinatal Brain Development

“Having done yoga for the past 7 years and even having completed a teacher training, I always felt that there was something missing with the physical practice in yoga. This is what drew me to try and find movement classes and eventually to Baris.

I found the classes to be well structured, accessible and suitable across a range of capabilities. Everything hangs together well, with a positive and encouraging atmosphere that is nurtured by the way Baris holds the space.

Personally, I've seen a progression in my physical capabilities that I hadn't achieved from the very linear and relatively static asana practice. When I share a yoga or movement practice in the future, I want to fold in many of the elements of the movement rituals classes.”

  • Rob Phillips, Product Manager

“I have seen incredible gains in my movement since I have been working with Baris. I never imagined that I could be making this much progress! I am stronger, more flexible and my old injuries are resolving. Baris teaches with a strong emphasis on the fundamental details of all movements. This has given me the building blocks to improve in all my activities. Working with Baris is for everybody who wants to move through life Better.”

  • Elizabeth Carillo, Chiropractor

“I’ve worked with Baris for about 6 months now and I’d have no hesitation in recommending him. He’s great at what he does. The combination of his competence as a teacher and intuitive understanding of the body make his sessions incredibly powerful and effective. His approach is as relevant to the mind as it is to the body and underpins all other physical disciplines. This is apparent in the amazing cross section of wonderful people who work with him.”

  • Hugh Wahla CEO and Life Coach

“Baris is one of a kind. I’ve been attending his classes for years now but still in each class I learn something new, and I keep coming back. I don’t know anyone who understands movement and our relationship with our bodies like Baris does.”

  • Laura Hannah, Performer

“Baris is a wonderful teacher with so much knowledge and such incredible skills to share. I had been exercising for many years before I started going to Baris’ classes but had felt little improvement in my fitness, strength, coordination and body awareness and then I joined Baris’ classes and the impact was noticeable after just a few weeks! His understanding of progression in movement is outstanding and his classes will have you doing things you never thought your body was capable of !”

  • Jess Andrews, Teacher

“In just 6 months, with no previous background in movement, dance or even sport, I was able to walk on my hands. Once I saw what was possible it became impossible to give it up, and the achievements are still coming, each one creating a window onto the next. The Movement Rituals class provides a break down of what could otherwise only be gained by training in several different fields at once (dance, martial arts, physical theatre, and calisthenics to name a few). On the one hand, there is a clear technical vocabulary, which means we are able to discuss the obstacles we face and problem solve at home. And this carries with it a knowledge of anatomy and therapeutic techniques for recovering and expanding in your abilities. On the other hand the classes themselves are experiential and give you a chance to delve into movement and learn through your body. And, finally, because of the strong inspiration this class takes from capoeira, there is an unusual, and very powerful, emphasis on coordination, spatial awareness, rhythm, touch and nonverbal communication. Not only have I gained physical abilities, I’ve gained new sensitivity and new channels through which to relate to and be with others.”

  • Brendan Sibley, Actor

“Baris’ thoughtful and effective tuition has led me towards feeling a greater sense of full body awareness, flexibility and strength. Despite the hard work, I always leave class feeling energised and inspired to improve. Importantly, learning from Baris has greatly benefitted my work in carpentry which involves a lot of lifting and bending over. His approach helps all people of different abilities, evident in the weekly progression of everyone I see in lessons. A super friendly dude, it’s a pleasure to be taught by him!”

  • Toby Woodroffe, Carpenter
